Valley of Flowers is the name of a valley of flowers. This valley is located in the Garhwal state of Uttarakhand, India. This valley is a part of Nanda Devi National Park which was declared by UNESCO in 1982. Valley of Flowers is a world-famous tourist place which is open only from 1st June to 31st October. This garden is spread over an area of 87 square km. The Valley of Flowers is a large area where more than 600 species of flowers are present, which is situated at an altitude of 4600 meters above sea level. There are stories that when Lord Lakshman fainted during the battle with Ravana, Lord Hanuman came to this place to collect Sanjeevani herbs. This valley was first discovered by two British mountaineers named Frank S. Smith and R.L. Holdsworth. He found this valley in 1931 when he was returning from Comet Mountain, He was so impressed by the beauty of this valley that he returned to this place in 1937 and also published a book named Valley of Flowers.
Gorson Bugyal is a beautiful Himalayan alpine meadow in Chamoli, Uttarakhand, spread over hundreds of acres of land. The distance of Gorson Bugyal is only 29 to 30 less than Valley of Flowers. Gorson Bugyal is a skiing resort. In the trek to Gorsan Bugyal, you pass through apple orchards, and oak and cedar forests.
Badrinath Dham is the fourth end of the famous Chardham Yatra which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The distance of Badrinath Dham from Valley of Flowers is only 24 km. Badrinath is famous for its Badrinath Temple.
Pandukeshwar is a village located in Chamoli, Uttarakhand, which falls on the way to Badrinath. This village is situated at an altitude of 6300 feet. It is believed that Raja Pandukeshwar, the father of Pandavas of Mahabharata, founded Pandukeshwar. The distance from Pandukeshwar to Valley of Flowers is just 1.8 km.
Niti Valley is a valley located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand state, in which there is a village named Niti. There is a holy cave in Niti Valley named Timmarsain Mahadev. Niti Valley is famous for its culture and beautiful views of the Himalayas.
Joshimath is a town located in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. Whenever Badrinath Dham is closed during winter, his Dolly is brought to Joshimath and here his idol is worshiped in the Bhavishye Badri Temple the idol stays in Joshimath throughout the winter season. Joshimath itself is a famous tourist destination.
The visit to Valley of Flowers is open from June to October, but if you want to enjoy your visit to the fullest then you should visit Valley of Flowers between the months of July and mid-August. At this time all the flowers are in full bloom.
You can go to Valley of Flowers from Delhi by bus or by taxi. You will first have to reach Haridwar/Rishikesh from Delhi by bus. You will easily find bus services available from Delhi to Haridwar/Rishikesh. Then you will take a bus from Haridwar to Joshimath. From Joshimath, you will then take the Govindghat by cab which is 16 km from Joshimath. Then you can start your trek from Govindghat. The distance from Delhi to Valley of Flowers is 520 km which will take you around 12:30 to 13:30 hours.
If you want to go to Valley of Flowers By Train then you will have to go to Rishikesh first because Rishikesh Railway Station is the nearest railway station to Valley of Flowers. Then from there, you will get a bus or taxi service easily available till Joshimath. Then from Joshimath you will book a cab to Govindghat, the distance from Joshimath to Govindghat is 16km, and then from Govindhghat, you can start your trek to Valley of Flowers.
If you want to travel to Valley of Flowers from Delhi by air, you will first have to go to Dehradun Jolly Grand Airport because Dehradun is the nearest airport to Valley of Flowers. Your Delhi to Dehradun flight time will be 1 hour. Then after that, you will get a taxi or bus service from Dehradun to Joshimath. From Joshimath, you will then go to Govindghat by cab and from there you can start your trekking of the Valley of Flowers.
