History Of Ranikhet

 

In 1815, Kumaon was handed over to the British by the Gorkhas. When the British started ruling Almora, the English officers started living in Hawalbagh. Then later the army was transferred to Almora and deployed in Lohghat and Pithoragarh, this army later came to be called the Kumaon Battalion. After that, for the first time in 1868, it was chosen as a place to house British soldiers, and a year later, compensation was started to be taken from the farmers of Sarn, Kotli, and Tana and Chavani was built with the money. During the British era, this place was proposed as the summer headquarters of British India.

This temple is located at a distance of just 4.5 km from the Ranikhet bus stand. You should avoid the monsoon season to visit this place. Jhula Devi Temple

 

This temple was built in the 8th century, this temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga. There is a belief about this temple that the wishes made here are fulfilled. And if you are visiting this temple, then you can also visit the Ram Temple located near it.

 

Sun Temple, Ranikhet

 

The Sun Temple located here is more than 800 years old. This temple is among the oldest temples of Almora, this temple is also known as Katarmal.
