History Of Ranikhet
In 1815, Kumaon was handed over to the British by the Gorkhas. When the British started ruling Almora, the English officers started living in Hawalbagh. Then later the army was transferred to Almora and deployed in Lohghat and Pithoragarh, this army later came to be called the Kumaon Battalion. After that, for the first time in 1868, it was chosen as a place to house British soldiers, and a year later, compensation was started to be taken from the farmers of Sarn, Kotli, and Tana and Chavani was built with the money. During the British era, this place was proposed as the summer headquarters of British India.
